Residents

Below are some of the residents here at Second Flight. We always have more parrots here at Second Flight. We only add parrots to this page if we have found finding them their forever home to be difficult.

BB   is a Double Yellow Headed Amazon who is approximately 35-40 years old or older. BB was taken in by a very loving mom a few years ago. BB has a nutritional disorder which caused a multitude of health problems. BB's mom continues to visit regularly and has become a volunteer for our organization.

Sammy  Some of you may remember Sammy. Sammy arrived here over two years ago due to aggression. Sammy came around very quickly and when a family that had cockatoo experience, and who had shown great commitment to their birds wished to adopt him, we felt it was best for Sammy. Unfortunately, Sammy reverted very quickly and did not bond to anyone in the family. They showed great compassion and determination to try to help Sammy for well over a year. But during our visits with Sammy he showed quite clearly that he wanted to come home to Second Flight. He is now back, happy, and doing quite well.

Sammy is an example of why so much thought needs to be given when adding a Cockatoo to your home. That and why it is so difficult for us to find homes for Too's, especially Males.

This is also why we do home visits and offer continuing support to the familes that adopt from our organization.

Dolce  Dolce was very loved by his family at Tilley Endurables. The staff at Tilley all loved Dolce very much and when it came time that they had to find him a home they brought him here to Second Flight. Dolce has since visited with his family at Tilley and has also quickly become a part of our family. Because we see so many birds arrived that have been neglected or abused they are often very nervous about being in public so we have very few birds that are able to attend educational events. Dolce on the other hand enjoys his outtings into the public where he gets to put on a show.

Maxi  Maxi is a male Umbrella Cockatoo with a scissor beak. Maxi was once very aggressive but since arriving to our home has become quite the entertainer who loves to put on a show.

Tango  At 7 years old he had seen over 4 homes that we are aware of. After a woman took him in knowing that she would be unable to keep him but wanting to get him out of his previous situation, she brought him to us.

Tango was extremely aggressive and soon became very attached to Leanne. He loves to put on a show once he has gotten to know everyone but very few are able to handle him. Here he is with one of his closest friends.

Thank you to Merlin's parents for the generous donation to sponsor dear Tango.

Roxy   is 10 year old Scarlet Macaw and in her 10 years she has experienced some of the most tragic events that I have ever heard of. As a result she began plucking to a great extent. We would like to take this moment to thank Emergency personnel who arrive to an emergency call and find an animal in need and who realize that these beautiful creatures need support, care, and help. And a special thank you to the family that helped to bring her to us here at Second Flight. Because of Roxy's history, she is NOT available for adoption at this time.

Wasabi   the Cockatiel arrived from the OSPCA and was in dire need of veterinary care, love and affection. We are happy to report that he is improving and doing very well in his current foster home. He is available for adoption to a forever home that is knowledgable in his care and understanding of his needs.

Pumpkin, our Jenday Conure. Pumpkin arrived when his former family was unable to give him the amount of care he required. If you have ever phoned or stopped by chances are you have heard pumpkin in the background making sure his presence is known. When he first arrived he seemed very fearful of men and would attack all who came close. But in time he has become quite the sweetheart and loves to give goodnight kisses at bedtime although he is still quick to lunge at visitors.

Kiko is a Citron Crested Cockatoo. We received a call early in the morning from a woman needing to find a home for her "baby". She had contacted others but didn't feel comfortable with the situation and was hoping we could help. She arrived and was happy to see how he reacted with myself and my husband. He is 9 years old and has lived in 5 homes that we are aware of. He is a plucker however seems to have stopped in the past few months. His owner loved him dearly but unfortunately her family was not accustomed to Cockatoo behaviour which is often the case. He was abused by previous owners and is very cautious of men. When he first arrived he would bite a male if given any opportunity, since then he is coming around to trust and not be quite so nervous.

Elmo, the Moluccan Cockatoo has won so many over with his silly antics and sense of humour. Elmo is a reminder of what research needs to be done before purchasing a parrot, especially a cockatoo and even more so a Moluccan. He was very well taken care of by her previous owners and although I first hesitated taking her simply because he seemed more suited the adoption category after much discussion with her previous owner it was decided she was best to come here. Simply because so many are taking away by his beauty, and dont' realize their ability for mood swings, screeching, biting and more. Although Elmo likes to keep us guessing he is a sweetheart and loves to be called gorgeous which he is. He has worked his way into all of our hearts.

Zane is a Moluccan Cockatoo who was found in a dumpster in North York Toronto. We received an email by one of our members and we were then in contact with North York City of Toronto Animal services. Traumatized and suffering from wounds from self mutilation we arrived to find a parrot in need of understanding and compassion. He snuggled into Leanne immediately and he was brought to Second Flight. He is a self mutilator and we have found that he is mutilating himself much less with the help of his collar donated by Diane Dwyer. He is extremely affectionate and quite the cuddly one. He loves women and will sit on their lap for hours. He is very fearful of new people although we find he is getting much less nervous when we have visitors.

This is Squeekers, an African Grey who won his way into my heart rather quickly. But don't they all :) He was very much loved by his previous owners but after giving birth to a beautiful baby boy they soon found that they were concerned with their sons wellbeing. Squeekers was known to be a biter as well as a plucker. Since he has arrived he seems to have stopped plucking and has become my "little guy". He likes to watch from the sidelines when it comes to visitors but when its just a small group of us he loves to sing, dance, talk, and mimic pretty well all that we say. He isn't too tolerant of most people but he is coming along wonderfully and loves his mom.
