Avian Flu Position Statement and Policy from NAWA
NAWA, the National Avian Welfare Alliance, is the premier legislative advocacy umbrella organization for bird interest groups. Its 34 member organizations include the AFA (American Federation of Aviculture), AAV (Association of Avian Veterinari ans), NFSS (National Finch & Softbill Society), The Gabriel Foundation (a rescue group), the PIJAC (Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council), the Cockatoo Society and many others.

PAWS Amendment Update from the AFA
On November 10,2005, the AFA (American Federation of Aviculturists) issued this update from its General Counsel, Gary Lilienthal, who has been meeting with lawmakers on Capital Hill to clarify wording in the proposed legislation. The AFA has been informed that an understanding has been reached to exempt all avian species from the PAWS amendment. (Please note that this does not mean avian species are being exempted from the AWA.) The Newmarket Parrot Association The Newmarket Parrot Association was founded in 1999 when a group of parrot enthusiasts gathered for a BBQ. All feathered friends were invited to bring their owners for an afternoon of avian fun! Thus a grass roots organization began and the Newmarket Parrot Association seed was sown! Since then, parrot owners, breeders and birds of a feather, meet once a month to share and learn from one another.Thank you to them for their continuing support!
