Applying for Adoption
If you are interested in adopting a parrot through Second Flight please read the following points that we ask you to think about prior to requesting an application:
1. Parrots brought to us are looking for a second chance, someone who is patient, understanding, aware of their needs, and most importantly loving. Although we do have parrots who are brought to us who were loved an cared for and are happy healthy companion parrots that is rare. We promise to make you aware of any behavioural problems or medical conditions that we are aware of and support you prior and after any adoption takes place.
2. We will not adopt out to breeders where the parrot is to be used for breeding purposes.
3. We will visit your home afterwards to ensure that all is going well. We ask should you have any questions or concerns to contact us immediately.
4. Should you not beable to care for the parrot any longer the parrot is to be brought back to Second Flight and there is no refund on the adoption fee. We keep adoption fee's as low as possible to ensure that this does happen. All applicants are required to sign a contract stating this and we are prepared to take legal action to ensure that this is done.
5. The saying that "its better to have a parrot as a baby to ensure a bond between you and your fine feathered friend" is false. You will get just as much love if not more from a parrot in need, the difference is time, patience, and understanding.
6. Once we have received your application for adoption you will be invited to join our yahoo group where you will receive up to date information on parrots that are available for adoption. If you believe that you can offer a permanent loving home to one of our birds you will be asked to visit and bring photos or video with you of your home and of any animals you may already have.
7. We will not adopt out a parrot who is not suitable in a home environment and again we inform you of all information that we are aware of.
